Mechanisms underlying the link between COVID-19 anti-Asian racial discrimination and psychological health are underexplored. This mixed-methods study examined the moderating effects of ethnic identity and internalized racism on the relationship between COVID discrimination and behavioral health outcomes among Asian Americans. We hypothesized that individuals with lower ethnic identity and higher internalized racism levels would demonstrate more adverse outcomes, including worsened psychological trauma and identity-avoidant behaviors, post-discrimination. Asian American participants (N = 215) responded to a Qualtrics survey, including qualitative and quantitative questions on COVID-related racism experiences, ethnic identity, internalized racism, trauma, and other subsequent effects. For qualitative analysis, participants were sorted into four subgroups defined by low- and/or high-ethnic identity and internalized racism scores, and we explored themes in participant reports of identity-related coping effects after racism. We additionally used hierarchical multiple regression analyses to quantitatively assess the moderating impact of ethnic identity and internalized racism on the relationship between COVID discrimination and trauma. Analyses revealed no moderating effects from the two identity variables. However, qualitative analyses identified themes of identity-promoting and identity-avoidant behavioral responses, and moderation analyses revealed that ethnic identity had a main effect on mitigating racial trauma, while internalized racism exacerbated both racial trauma and PTSD levels. This study identified ethnic identity and internalized racism as underlying causes to behavioral health outcomes for Asian Americans. Results offer mental health providers serving Asian clients insight into identity-related influences to help optimize culturally appropriate interventions and support initiatives of identity promotion to foster community engagement for this population.

BACKGROUND: Telehealth has the potential to increase access to care for medically underserved patients. This qualitative study aimed to identify telecare practices used during the COVID-19 pandemic to meet the needs of patients experiencing homelessness, patients with disabilities, and patients with language preference other than English (LOE). METHODS: We conducted a secondary qualitative data analysis of 47 clinician interviews at Federally Qualified Health Centers (FQHCs) around the country. Using thematic analysis, transcripts were coded by line-by-line by five qualitative researchers. A multidisciplinary team of telehealth experts, researchers and primary care clinicians reviewed memos and excerpts to generate major themes. RESULTS: We identified six main areas demonstrating how community providers developed strategies or practices to improve access to care for vulnerable patients: reaching patients experiencing homelessness, serving deaf and hard of hearing patients, improving access for patients with disabilities, serving patients with LOE, improving access for mental and behavioral health services, and educating patients about telehealth. During the pandemic, FQHCs developed innovative solutions to provide access to care for the unhoused, including using telehealth in shelters, vans, and distributing devices like mobile phones and tablets. Telehealth reduced transportation burdens for patients with disabilities and reduced no-show rates for mental health services by adapting group therapy via telehealth features (like break-out rooms) and increasing provider capacity. CONCLUSION: Our study identified strategies adopted by FQHCs to serve underserved populations during the COVID-19 pandemic. Our findings highlight the need for enduring strategies to improve health equity through telehealth..

Background: Scabies infections of the breast in lactating individuals are not well described, especially how maternal infection can impact human milk feeding of hospitalized infants in the intensive care setting. Methods: This case report presents a critically ill female infant with a complex surgical history whose mother had an active scabies infection around the breast postpartum and wished to provide expressed human milk. Results: In this case report, human milk was recommended despite maternal scabies infection. Conclusion: Given the limited information that is known about the risk of scabies transmission in human milk for critically ill infants, this case adds to the knowledge base and supports the call for further research.

Chemoradiotherapy is the standard treatment after maximal safe resection for glioblastoma (GBM). Despite advances in molecular profiling, surgical techniques, and neuro-imaging, there have been no major breakthroughs in radiotherapy (RT) volumes in decades. Although the majority of recurrences occur within the original gross tumor volume (GTV), treatment of a clinical target volume (CTV) ranging from 1.5 to 3.0 cm beyond the GTV remains the standard of care. Over the past 15 years, the incorporation of standard and functional MRI sequences into the treatment workflow has become a routine practice with increasing adoption of MR simulators, and new integrated MR-Linac technologies allowing for daily pre-, intra- and post-treatment MR imaging. There is now unprecedented ability to understand the tumor dynamics and biology of GBM during RT, and safe CTV margin reduction is being investigated with the goal of improving the therapeutic ratio. The purpose of this review is to discuss margin strategies and the potential for adaptive RT for GBM, with a focus on the challenges and opportunities associated with both online and offline adaptive workflows. Lastly, opportunities to biologically guide adaptive RT using non-invasive imaging biomarkers and the potential to define appropriate volumes for dose modification will be discussed.

BACKGROUND: The monthly regeneration of human endometrial tissue is maintained by the presence of human endometrial mesenchymal stromal/stem cells (eMSC), a cell population co-expressing the perivascular markers CD140b and CD146. Endometrial regeneration is impaired in the presence of intrauterine adhesions, leading to infertility, recurrent pregnancy loss and placental abnormalities. Several types of somatic stem cells have been used to repair the damaged endometrium in animal models, reporting successful pregnancy. However, the ability of endometrial stem cells to repair the damaged endometrium remains unknown. METHODS: Electrocoagulation was applied to the left uterine horn of NOD/SCID mice causing endometrial injury. Human eMSC or PBS was then injected into the left injured horn while the right normal horn served as controls. Mice were sacrificed at different timepoints (Day 3, 7 and 14) and the endometrial morphological changes as well as the degree of endometrial injury and repair were observed by histological staining. Gene expression of various inflammatory markers was assessed using qPCR. The functionality of the repaired endometrium was evaluated by fertility test. RESULTS: Human eMSC successfully incorporated into the injured uterine horn, which displayed significant morphological restoration. Also, endometrium in the eMSC group showed better cell proliferation and glands formation than the PBS group. Although the number of blood vessels were similar between the two groups, gene expression of VEGF-α significantly increased in the eMSC group. Moreover, eMSC had a positive impact on the regeneration of both stromal and epithelial components of the mouse endometrium, indicated by significantly higher vimentin and CK19 protein expression. Reduced endometrial fibrosis and down-regulation of fibrosis markers were also observed in the eMSC group. The eMSC group had a significantly higher gene expression of anti-inflammatory factor Il-10 and lower mRNA level of pro-inflammatory factors Ifng and Il-2, indicating the role of eMSC in regulation of inflammatory reactions. The eMSC group showed higher implantation sites than the PBS group, suggesting better endometrial receptivity with the presence of newly emerged endometrial lining. CONCLUSIONS: Our findings suggest eMSC improves regeneration of injured endometrium in mice.

STUDY OBJECTIVES: Preliminary evidence suggests that the risk of Long COVID is higher among people with pre-existing medical conditions. Based on its proven adjuvant role in immunity, habitual sleep duration may alter the risk of developing Long COVID. The objective of this study was to determine whether the odds of Long COVID are higher among those with pre-existing medical conditions, and whether the strength of this association varies by habitual sleep duration. METHODS: Using data from 13,461 respondents from 16 countries who participated in the 2021 survey-based International COVID Sleep Study II (ICOSS II), we studied the associations between habitual sleep duration, pre-existing medical conditions, and Long COVID. RESULTS: Of 2,508 individuals who had COVID-19, 61% reported at least 1 Long COVID symptom. Multivariable logistic regression analysis showed that the risk of having Long COVID was 1.8-fold higher for average-length sleepers (6-9 h/night) with pre-existing medical conditions compared with those without pre-existing medical conditions (adjusted odds ratio [aOR] 1.84 [1.18-2.90]; P = .008). The risk of Long COVID was 3-fold higher for short sleepers with pre-existing medical conditions (aOR 2.95 [1.04-8.4]; P = .043) and not significantly higher for long sleepers with pre-existing conditions (aOR 2.11 [0.93-4.77]; P = .073) compared with average-length sleepers without pre-existing conditions. CONCLUSIONS: Habitual short nighttime sleep duration exacerbated the risk of Long COVID in individuals with pre-existing conditions. Restoring nighttime sleep to average duration represents a potentially modifiable behavioral factor to lower the odds of Long COVID for at-risk patients. Chemical exchange saturation transfer (CEST) is a relatively novel magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) technique with an image contrast designed for in vivo measurement of certain endogenous molecules with protons that are exchangeable with water protons, such as amide proton transfer commonly used for neuro-oncology applications. Recent technological advances have made it feasible to implement CEST on clinical grade scanners within practical acquisition times, creating new opportunities to integrate CEST in clinical workflow. In addition, the majority of CEST applications used in neuro-oncology are performed without the use gadolinium-based contrast agents which are another appealing feature of this technique. This review is written for clinicians involved in neuro-oncologic care (nonphysicists) as the target audience explaining what they need to know as CEST makes its way into practice. The purpose of this article is to (1) review the basic physics and technical principles of CEST MRI, and (2) review the practical applications of CEST in neuro-oncology.

Severe endometrium damage causes pathological conditions such as thin endometrium and intrauterine adhesion, resulting in uterine factor infertility. Mesenchymal stem cell (MSC) therapy is a promising strategy in endometrial repair; yet, exogenous MSCs still raise concerns for safety and ethical issues. Human adipose-derived mesenchymal stem cells (ADMSCs) residing in adipose tissue have high translational potentials due to their autologous origin. To harness the high translation potentials of ADMSC in clinical endometrium regeneration, here we constructed an ADMSCs composited porous scaffold (CS/ADMSC) and evaluated its effectiveness on endometrial regeneration in a rat endometrium-injury model. We found that CS/ADMSC intrauterine implantation (i) promoted endometrial thickness and gland number, (ii) enhanced tissue angiogenesis, (iii) reduced fibrosis and (iv) restored fertility. We ascertained the pro-proliferation, pro-angiogenesis, immunomodulating and anti-fibrotic effects of CS/ADMSC in vitro and revealed that the CS/ADMSC influenced extracellular matrix composition and organization by a transcriptomic analysis. Our results demonstrated the effectiveness of CS/ADMSC for endometrial regeneration and provided solid proof for our future clinical study.

AIMS: To examine the risk association of insomnia with incident chronic cognitive impairment in older adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2D). METHODS: Between July 2010 and June 2015, patients with T2D aged ≥60 years enrolled in the Hong Kong Diabetes Register completed the Insomnia Severity Index (ISI) questionnaire. Patients were considered having insomnia if they had ISI score > 14. We prospectively followed up the cohort and censored outcome through reviewing diagnoses and clinical notes entered by attending physicians in electronic medical record to identify incident cases of mild cognitive impairment and dementia. RESULTS: After excluding shift workers and those with established chronic cognitive impairment at baseline, we included 986 patients with T2D in this study (58.3 % men, mean age ± standard deviation: 62.5 ± 2.6 years, disease duration of diabetes: 10.7 ± 8.2 years, HbA1c: 7.4 ± 1.3 %, insulin users: 28.7 %, insomnia: 9.1 %). After a median follow-up of 7.6 (interquartile range = 2.0) years, 41 (4.2 %) developed chronic cognitive impairment. Using Cox regression analysis, insomnia (hazard ratio, HR 2.909, p = 0.012) and HbA1c ≥ 7 % (HR 2.300, p = 0.038) were positively associated with incident chronic cognitive impairment while insulin use (HR 0.309, p = 0.028) showed negative association. CONCLUSIONS: Insomnia, suboptimal glycemic control and non-insulin use are independent risk factors for incident chronic cognitive impairment in older adults with T2D.

A "chemical linearization" approach was applied to synthetic peptide macrocycles to enable their de novo sequencing from mixtures using nanoliquid chromatography-tandem mass spectrometry (nLC-MS/MS). This approach─previously applied to individual macrocycles but not to mixtures─involves cleavage of the peptide backbone at a defined position to give a product capable of generating sequence-determining fragment ions. Here, we first established the compatibility of "chemical linearization" by Edman degradation with a prominent macrocycle scaffold based on bis-Cys peptides cross-linked with the m-xylene linker, which are of major significance in therapeutics discovery. Then, using macrocycle libraries of known sequence composition, the ability to recover accurate de novo assignments to linearized products was critically tested using performance metrics unique to mixtures. Significantly, we show that linearized macrocycles can be sequenced with lower recall compared to linear peptides but with similar accuracy, which establishes the potential of using "chemical linearization" with synthetic libraries and selection procedures that yield compound mixtures. Sodiated precursor ions were identified as a significant source of high-scoring but inaccurate assignments, with potential implications for improving automated de novo sequencing more generally.

PURPOSE: To investigate the changes in apparent diffusion coefficient (ADC) within incrementally-increased margins beyond the gross tumor volume (GTV) on post-operative radiation planning MRI and their prognostic utility in glioblastoma. METHODS: Radiation planning MRIs of adult patients with newly diagnosed glioblastoma from 2017 to 2020 were assessed. The ADC values were normalized to contralateral normal white matter (nADC). Using 1 mm isotropic incremental margin increases from the GTV, the nADC values were calculated at each increment. Age, ECOG performance status, extent of resection and MGMT promoter methylation status were obtained from medical records. Using univariate and multivariable Cox regression analysis, association of nADC to progression-free and overall survival (PFS, OS) was assessed at each increment. RESULTS: Seventy consecutive patients with mean age of 53.6 ± 10.3 years, were evaluated. The MGMT promoter was methylated in 31 (44.3%), unmethylated in 36 (51.6%) and unknown in 3 (4.3%) patients. 11 (16%) underwent biopsy, 41 (44%) subtotal resection and 18 (26%) gross total resection. For each 1 mm increase in distance from GTV, the nADC decreased by 0.16% (p < 0.0001). At 1-5 mm increment, the nADC was associated with OS (p < 0.01). From 6 to 11 mm increment the nADC was associated with OS with the p-value gradually increasing from 0.018 to 0.046. nADC was not associated with PFS. CONCLUSION: The nADC values at 1-11 mm increments from the GTV margin were associated with OS. Future prospective multicenter studies are needed to validate the findings and to pave the way for the utilization of ADC for margin reduction in radiation planning.

Despite the well-established treatment effectiveness of exercise, cognitive behavioral therapy for insomnia (CBT-I), and pharmacotherapy on improving sleep, there have been no studies to compare their long-term effectiveness, which is of clinical importance for sustainable management of chronic insomnia. This study compared the long-term effectiveness of these three interventions on improving sleep in adults with chronic insomnia. MEDLINE, PsycINFO, Embase, and SPORTDiscus were searched for eligible reports. Trials that investigated the long-term effectiveness of these three interventions on improving sleep were included. The post-intervention follow-up of the trial had to be ≥6 months to be eligible. The primary outcome was the long-term effectiveness of the three interventions on improving sleep. Treatment effectiveness was the secondary outcome. A random-effects network meta-analysis was carried out using a frequentist approach. Thirteen trials were included in the study. After an average post-intervention follow-up period of 10.3 months, both exercise (SMD, -0.29; 95% CI, -0.57 to -0.01) and CBT-I (-0.48; -0.68 to -0.28) showed superior long-term effectiveness on improving sleep compared with control. Temazepam was the only included pharmacotherapy, which demonstrated superior treatment effectiveness (-0.80; -1.25 to -0.36) but not long-term effectiveness (0.19; -0.32 to 0.69) compared with control. The findings support the use of both exercise and CBT-I for long-term management of chronic insomnia, while temazepam may be used for short-term treatment.

BACKGROUND AND PURPOSE: Survival in glioblastoma might be extended by escalating the radiotherapy dose to treatment-resistant tumour and adapting to tumour changes. Diffusion-weighted imaging (DWI) on MRI-linear accelerators (MR-Linacs) could be used to identify a dose escalation target, but its prognostic value must be demonstrated. The purpose of this study was to determine whether MR-Linac DWI can assess treatment response in glioblastoma and whether changes in DWI show greater prognostic value than changes in the contrast-enhancing gross tumour volume (GTV). MATERIALS AND METHODS: Seventy-five patients with glioblastoma were treated with chemoradiotherapy, of which 32 were treated on a 1.5 T MRI-linear accelerator (MR-Linac). Patients were imaged with simulation MRI scanners (MR-sim) at treatment planning and weeks 2, 4, and 10 after treatment start. Twenty-eight patients had additional MR-Linac DWI sequences. Cox modelling was used to evaluate the correlation of overall and progression-free survival (OS and PFS) with clinical variables and volumetric changes in the GTV and low-ADC regions (ADC < 1.25 µm2/ms within GTV). RESULTS: In total, 479 MR-Linac DWI and 289 MR-sim DWI datasets were analyzed. MR-Linac low-ADC changes between weeks 2 and 5 inclusive were prognostic for OS (hazard ratio lower limits ≥ 1.2, p-values ≤ 0.02). MR-sim low-ADC changes showed greater correlation with OS and PFS than GTV changes (e.g., OS hazard ratio at week 2 was 3.4 (p <0.001) for low-ADC versus 2.0 (p = 0.022) for GTV). CONCLUSION: MR-Linac DWI can measure low-ADC tumour volumes that correlate with OS and PFS better than contrast-enhancing GTV. Low-ADC regions could serve as dose escalation targets.

The evolution of the extinct megatooth shark, Otodus megalodon, and its close phylogenetic relatives remains enigmatic. A central question persists regarding the thermophysiological origins of these large predatory sharks through geologic time, including whether O. megalodon was ectothermic or endothermic (including regional endothermy), and whether its thermophysiology could help to explain the iconic shark's gigantism and eventual demise during the Pliocene. To address these uncertainties, we present unique geochemical evidence for thermoregulation in O. megalodon from both clumped isotope paleothermometry and phosphate oxygen isotopes. Our results show that O. megalodon had an overall warmer body temperature compared with its ambient environment and other coexisting shark species, providing quantitative and experimental support for recent biophysical modeling studies that suggest endothermy was one of the key drivers for gigantism in O. megalodon and other lamniform sharks. The gigantic body size with high metabolic costs of having high body temperatures may have contributed to the vulnerability of Otodus species to extinction when compared to other sympatric sharks that survived the Pliocene epoch.

Background and Objectives: Internalized ageism and stigma of mental illness may disempower older people and impede help-seeking among those at risk of depression. Arts are deemed enjoyable, stigma-free, and conducive to mental health, and a participatory approach can engage and empower potential service users. This study aimed to co-design a cultural art program and test its feasibility in empowering older Chinese people in Hong Kong and preventing depression. Research Design and Methods: Adopting a participatory approach and guided by the Knowledge-to-Action framework, we co-designed a 9-session group art program using Chinese calligraphy as the channel for gaining emotional awareness and facilitating expression. The iterative participatory co-design process engaged 10 older people, 3 researchers, 3 art therapists, and 2 social workers through multiple workshops and interviews. We tested the program's acceptability and feasibility in 15 community-dwelling older people at risk of depression (mean age = 71.6). Mixed methods were used, including pre- and postintervention questionnaires, observation, and focus groups. Results: Qualitative findings suggest the feasibility of the program, and quantitative findings indicated its effects in increasing empowerment (t(14) = 2.82, p < .05), but not in other mental health-related measurements. Participants reflected that active participation and learning new art skills were fun and empowering, arts enabled them to gain insight into and express deeper feelings, and groups with peers made them feel relatable and accepted. Discussion and Implications: Culturally appropriate participatory arts groups can effectively promote empowerment in older people, and future research should balance eliciting meaningful personal experiences and measurable changes.

Major depressive disorder (MDD) is associated with deficits in emotion experience, expression and regulation. Whilst emotion regulation deficits prolong MDD, emotion expression influences symptomatic presentations, and anticipatory pleasure deficits predict recurrence risk. Profiling MDD patients from an emotion componential perspective can characterize subtypes with different clinical and functional outcomes. This study aimed to investigate emotional subtypes of MDD. A two-stage cluster analysis applied to 150 MDD patients. Clustering variables included emotion experience measured by Temporal Experience of Pleasure Scale, emotion expression measured by Toronto Alexithymia Scale, and emotion regulation measured by Emotion Regulation Questionnaire. We validated the resultant clusters by comparing their symptoms and functioning with that of 50 controls. Cluster 1 (n = 50) exhibited intact emotion experience and expression yet adopted reappraisal rather than suppression strategy, whereas Cluster 2 (n = 66) exhibited generalized emotional deficits. Cluster 3 (n = 34) exhibited emotion expression deficits and adopted both reappraisal and suppression strategies. On validation, Cluster 2 exhibited the worst, but Cluster 1 exhibited the least symptoms and social functioning impairments. Cluster 3 was intermediate among the two other subtypes. Our findings support the existence of different emotional subtypes in MDD patients, and have clinical and theoretical implications for developing future specific treatments for MDD.

Colloidal crystal engineering with DNA has advanced beyond controlling the lattice symmetry and parameters of ordered crystals to now tuning crystal habit and size. However, the predominately used slow-cooling procedure that enables faceted crystal habits also limits control over crystal size and uniformity because nucleation and growth cannot be separated. Here, we explore how DNA sequence design can be used to deliberately separate nucleation and growth in a given crystallization process. Specifically, two batches of complementary particles are created with one batch exhibiting perfectly complementary base pairs while the other has a strategically introduced mismatch. This design enables the weaker binding "growth" particles to participate in heterogeneous growth on the nucleates formed from the stronger binding "seed" particles, effectively eliminating secondary nucleation pathways. By eliminating secondary nucleation events, this approach improves crystal uniformity, as measured by polydispersity (from PDI = 0.201 to 0.091). By using this approach with two different particle cores (gold and silver), we show how core-shell colloidal crystals can be synthesized in a one-pot fashion. This work shows how tuning DNA interaction strength can profoundly impact crystal size, uniformity, and structure, parameters central to using such materials as device components.

Short nighttime sleep duration impairs the immune response to virus vaccination, and long nighttime sleep duration is associated with poor health status. Thus, we hypothesized that short (<6 h) and long (>9 h) nighttime sleepers have a higher post-COVID risk than normal nighttime sleepers, despite two doses of mRNA vaccine (which has previously been linked to lower odds of long-lasting COVID-19 symptoms). Post-COVID was defined as experiencing at least one core COVID-19 symptom for at least three months (e.g., shortness of breath). Multivariate logistic regression adjusting for age, sex, BMI, and other factors showed in 9717 respondents (age span 18-99) that two mRNA vaccinations lowered the risk of suffering from post-COVID by about 21% (p < 0.001). When restricting the analysis to double-vaccinated respondents (n = 5918), short and long sleepers exhibited a greater post-COVID risk than normal sleepers (adjusted OR [95%-CI], 1.56 [1.29, 1.88] and 1.87 [1.32, 2.66], respectively). Among respondents with persistent sleep duration patterns during the pandemic compared to before the pandemic, short but not long sleep duration was significantly associated with the post-COVID risk (adjusted OR [95%-CI], 1.59 [1.24, 2.03] and 1.18 [0.70, 1.97], respectively). No significant association between sleep duration and post-COVID symptoms was observed in those reporting positive SARS-CoV-2 test results (n = 538). Our findings suggest that two mRNA vaccinations against SARS-CoV-2 are associated with a lower post-COVID risk. However, this protection may be less pronounced among those sleeping less than 6 h per night. Our findings warrant replication in cohorts with individuals with confirmed SARS-CoV-2 infection.

BACKGROUND: Long COVID induces a substantial global burden of disease. The pathogenesis, complications, and epidemiological and clinical characteristics of patients with COVID-19 in the acute phase have been evaluated, while few studies have characterized the epidemiology, symptomatology, and risk factors of long COVID symptoms. Its characteristics among patients with COVID-19 in the general population remain unaddressed. OBJECTIVE: We examined the prevalence of long COVID symptoms, its symptom patterns, and its risk factors in 4 major Chinese cities in order to fill the knowledge gap. METHODS: We performed a population-based, multicenter survey using a representative sampling strategy via the Qualtrics platform in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, and Hong Kong in June 2022. We included 2712 community-dwelling patients with COVID-19 and measured the prevalence of long COVID symptoms defined by the World Health Organization (WHO), and their risk factors. The primary outcomes were the symptoms of long COVID, with various levels of impact. A descriptive analysis of the prevalence and distribution of long COVID symptoms according to disease severity was conducted. A sensitivity analysis of increasing the number of long COVID symptoms was also conducted. Univariate and multivariate regression analyses were performed to examine the risk factors of severe long COVID symptoms, including age, gender, marital status, current occupation, educational level, living status, smoking habits, monthly household income, self-perceived health status, the presence of chronic diseases, the use of chronic medication, COVID-19 vaccination status, and the severity of COVID-19. RESULTS: The response rate was 63.6% (n=2712). The prevalence of long COVID, moderate or severe long COVID, and severe long COVID was 90.4% (n=2452), 62.4% (n=1692), and 31.0% (n=841), respectively. Fatigue (n=914, 33.7%), cough (n=865, 31.9%), sore throat (n=841, 31.0%), difficulty in concentrating (n=828, 30.5%), feeling of anxiety (n=817, 30.2%), myalgia (n=811, 29.9%), and arthralgia (n=811, 29.9%) were the most common severe long COVID symptoms. From multivariate regression analysis, female gender (adjusted odds ratio [aOR]=1.49, 95% CI 1.13-1.95); engagement in transportation, logistics, or the discipline workforce (aOR=2.52, 95% CI 1.58-4.03); living with domestic workers (aOR=2.37, 95% CI 1.39-4.03); smoking (aOR=1.55, 95% CI 1.17-2.05); poor or very poor self-perceived health status (aOR=15.4, 95% CI 7.88-30.00); ≥3 chronic diseases (aOR=2.71, 95% CI 1.54-4.79); chronic medication use (aOR=4.38, 95% CI 1.66-11.53); and critical severity of COVID-19 (aOR=1.52, 95% CI 1.07-2.15) were associated with severe long COVID. Prior vaccination with ≥2 doses of COVID-19 vaccines was a protective factor (aOR=0.35-0.22, 95% CI 0.08-0.90). CONCLUSIONS: We examined the prevalence of long COVID symptoms in 4 Chinese cities according to the severity of COVID-19. We also evaluated the pattern of long COVID symptoms and their risk factors. These findings may inform early identification of patients with COVID-19 at risk of long COVID and planning of rehabilitative services.
